  • Autism Evansville hosted its annual Taking Steps for Autism Walk & 5K yesterday, June 21, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Vanderburgh 4H grounds after it was postponed from April 19 due to stormy weather. Families enjoyed a 5K run, Kids Dash, family walk and fun activities + the event supports local efforts to assist families in seven counties.  44 News

  • An elderly man lost nearly $8,000 on June 20 when he was told over the phone to withdraw funds from three banks and deposit them into a bitcoin machine at the corner of Newburgh Road and Washington Avenue—police said the scam caller threatened to take his social security if he did not comply—and no arrests have been made.  44 News
  • An Evansville family remains in distress after Dawnita Wilkerson disappeared five years ago when she was last seen leaving a local motel in a silver SUV on June 21, 2020 — she did not call her mother or daughters as usual, which led them to report her missing.  14 News
  • An Evansville man (48-year-old Craig Barnett) was sentenced to 182 days in jail for resisting law enforcement after he jumped from a balcony to avoid arrest and hurt himself in the fall; he had reportedly threatened a former girlfriend with a knife before other charges were dropped as part of a plea deal.  14 News

  • Holiday Worlds brings back its 'Holiday in the Sky' drone show this summer and staff member Matt Woolems surprised his girlfriend and coworker Amanda Enslow with a proposal. They first met at the show last year (the secret plan was kept from most staff) and now look forward to a shared future.  14 News

  • Extreme heat and humidity have entered the tri-state and can quickly endanger pets, so officials urge keeping them indoors in well-ventilated or air-conditioned spaces. If pets are taken outside, owners should provide shade, fresh water, and watch for signs of overheating—such as heavy panting or lethargy.  WEHT
