COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Fenrys is a five-month-old mix between husky and lab who was surrendered from Animal Control and spent about one month in foster care (PAAWS); he is now ready to find his forever home.  44 News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Crews responded to a structure fire in the 1000 block of Moll Avenue, near Diamond Ave & Highway 41, around 7:30 a.m. on June 27, and firefighters extinguished the blaze about ten minutes later.  WEHT

CRIME NEWS

  • An Evansville man accepted a plea deal to avoid trial for his role in his wife’s 2023 stabbing death—he claimed he acted in self-defense during an argument, faces a new voluntary manslaughter charge filed on May 30, and is set for sentencing on July 24.  WEHT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Evansville Water and Sewer Utility shared a video update on repairs for the sinkhole on Riverside Drive (a problem reported since February) and expects the road to reopen by October. Officials said extra security will be added during Fourth of July celebrations (to keep pedestrians clear).  44 News
  • Local fire departments and first responders from Warrick County trained in hazmat procedures at the Lineage plant near Highway 62 in Boonville to prepare for ammonia leaks (the Evansville Fire Department handles 15-20 hazmat calls a year).  14 News
  • The Evansville Water and Sewer Utility plans to repair the sinkhole on Riverside Drive and Chestnut Street with a complex project that will shore up the hole, add support to the water main, and install fencing to keep people away. Officials said the repairs will take three to four months and include security on July 4 (to protect the water supply on the west side).  WEHT

  • The Women’s Hospital Classic Professional Tennis Tournament will take place from July 21st to July 27th at the Wesselman Park Tennis Center in Evansville. The event is upgraded to an ITF W100 level with a $100,000 prize purse and will serve as the first stop for the US Open Wild Card Challenge.  44 News
