Good morning, Evansville.

Evansville named Mary McNamee Bower and the late Sister Mary Stella Simpson as the 2026 Women Stepping Up honorees.

Awards will be presented on Aug. 26 at Bally’s Riverfront Event Center during the Women’s Equality Day Luncheon—Bower earns the Inspirational Leader Award while Simpson is honored as a Legacy Leader.

On Sunday, Deputy Quinten Might rescued a 72-year-old woman and her dog from her stranded vehicle in Gibson County on SR-64 east of Oakland City — rising floodwaters made towing unsafe — and officials urged drivers to avoid flooded roads.

A new retrospective article highlights nine pivotal moments when Evansville shaped U.S. history—from Roosevelt's secret WWII visit to breakthroughs in film, politics, and industry.

The piece offers residents a glimpse into events that continue to influence the community's identity.

Local high school sports fans can vote for the Courier & Press Male Athlete of the Year, presented by Orthopaedic Associates, with votes open until 12 p.m. CT on Friday, July 3 (nominees include top athletes from several schools).
