COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Officials with the Haitian Center of Evansville are launching weekly posts on social media to clear up false claims and share facts, with the first post stating they are (not a part of the formal process for refugee resettlement). The center will also continue to help anyone in need with care, dignity and resources.  WEHT
  • The 169th Gibson County Fair starts Sunday at 6 a.m. with booths and exhibits opening at 11 a.m.—the fair features 4-H poultry shows, truck and tractor pulls, a Monster Truck show on Monday and motocross on Thursday, with admission at $8 for adults and free for children nine and under while it runs through next Saturday.  14 News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A head on crash near Embassy Apartments off Washington Avenue just before 11 p.m. sent several people to hospital—one passenger suffered severe injuries though none of the injuries were life threatening.  14 News
  • An accident with injuries was reported on north First Avenue in Evansville when dispatch received a call about a hit-and-run Friday at 6:04 p.m.—responders from police, fire and EMS arrived and closed northbound First Avenue while the investigation continues.  WEHT

CRIME NEWS

  • Lorraine Pool in Evansville is closed for the weekend after overnight vandalism; officials showed photos of chairs and equipment underwater—residents are advised to visit other pools such as Red Mosby at Howell and Rochelle—.  WEHT
  • Evansville man Deric Tyrone West was arrested for allegedly facilitating a drug deal that led to a fatal overdose in 2023 at One Life Studios—he is held without bond at Vanderburgh County Jail.  44 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Yesterday, after a year of planning, Downtown Evansville launched the DORA program at 10 a.m. on the Fourth of July to let people 21 and older carry alcoholic drinks in branded cups from over 20 local restaurants and bars. City officials said more patrons were expected later as the fireworks show drew about 35,000 spectators—boosting local business.  WEHT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rivet High School’s T.E.A.M.S academic team finished first in Mathematical Modeling at the national competition held from June 28—July 1 at the Gaylord Hotel in Nashville, beating 131 teams from the United States and Turkey.  WEHT

  • The Evansville Otters thanked their fans after a sellout 4th of July Red, White, & Blue Night game on Thursday with 6,235 in attendance, marking Bosse Field’s largest crowd since 2017. The team will host the Gateway Grizzlies on July 11th at 6:35 p.m.  44 News
