- ➤ As temperatures rise in Evansville, local organizations are offering cooling centers to help residents escape the heat. Multiple public library branches and shelters such as the Evansville Rescue Mission, Patchwork Central, United Caring Services Day Shelter, CK Newsome Center and The Salvation Army are operating with set hours plus residents can call 211 for additional resources. - ➤ Evansville police arrested Kieven Hillard on Monday on Mary Street after he allegedly punched a man and stole his phone during a Snapchat-arranged meeting — a violent confrontation that left one victim with a self-defense stab wound — police said. 14 News

- ➤ In Evansville, students in the school corp. will follow a soft start schedule—those with last names K‑Z start on Aug.4 and students with A‑J begin on Aug.6—while all join on Aug.8. Courier & Press
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The massive riverfront sinkhole on Riverside Drive cost $915,937 — nearly one million dollars — so far as city workers fix the damaged sewer line, and officials said the road will likely remain closed until October. Repairs will drive the final bill even higher as work continues to secure the area. Courier & Press
- ➤ Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry announced that local nonprofits can apply for Forward Together Grants with awards up to $35,000 to support neighborhood revitalization, public safety, and poverty reduction—application materials are available on the City website and must be submitted by September 19th at 5 p.m. 44 News
- ➤ Crews placed the first 100-ton concrete beams for the I-69 Bridge Project on the Indiana side of the river after stopping traffic for 15 minutes Monday so trucks could deliver them from Highway 41 to Waterworks Road. A second shipment will arrive later today and deliveries will continue through mid-September. 14 News
- ➤ Mayor Terry announced today that local nonprofits may apply for the new round of Forward Together grants — which support home weatherization, food access, literacy, and services for people experiencing homelessness — as part of the City's effort to revitalize neighborhoods, boost public safety, and reduce poverty. The program is funded by interest earned from American Rescue Plan Act funds. 14 News
