  • Stepping Stone invited local residents to a conversation on substance use, mental health and recovery where attendees toured the facility—sampled refreshments and met addiction medicine expert Dr. Datt. Mayor Stephanie Terry opened the event and a panel answered community questions on recovery and substance use.  14 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Timothy Farber (61) from Evansville was arrested on July 22 and charged with the 1993 murder of Norman Ellerbrook near Warrenton in Gibson County after DNA evidence linked him to the case; he is being held without bond.  WEHT
  • Perry County deputies arrested 58-year-old Gerald Weddle after he was involved in a police chase with Missouri authorities on Tuesday & he will soon be extradited to face burglary charges.  14 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Citizens Action Coalition condemned steep electric bill hikes by Indiana utilities after data for July 1 billing from 2024 to 2025 showed CenterPoint fees rising $44 and Duke Energy charges increasing nearly $26 per month — the group reported that customers are paying over $28 more monthly, marking the highest surge since 2005 and urging state leaders to curb monopoly pricing.  WEHT

HEALTH NEWS

  • Planned Parenthood will close its Evansville Weinbach Avenue site on September 4 as it shifts resources to its 10 remaining locations—future patients will visit centers in New Albany or Bloomington for testing, screenings, and related care.  WEHT
  • Evansville’s VCA All Pet Emergency Center—facing a veterinarian shortage—will reduce its hours starting Aug 4 as it struggles with staff shortages. The clinic will be closed Mondays and Tuesdays and will operate Wednesdays through Fridays from 6 p.m. to midnight plus on weekends from Saturday at noon to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.  Courier & Press
