ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • At around 10:10 a.m. Monday, a fire started in a kitchen on North Weinbach Avenue near Columbia Street in Evansville—injuring a juvenile boy with smoke inhalation, though he did not require hospitalization, and officials are investigating the cause.  14 News

CRIME NEWS

  • A 34-year-old Evansville man was arrested on Monday after he left his husky and another dog in a parked truck when it was 99 degrees outside and the truck’s interior hit 128 degrees Fahrenheit—both dogs suffered heat stroke and were taken to a veterinarian.  14 News
  • On Jul. 28, a judge sentenced Jonathan Bell to 40 years in prison for shooting a victim on South Red Bank Road during a drug deal in September while Bell was on parole.  14 News
  • Evansville Police cited two dog owners after they left their small dog in a van parked at Costco on Cross Pointe Plaza around 11:30 a.m. Sunday when the interior temperature hit 130 degrees and the pet was found panting heavily—animal control later took custody of the dog.  44 News
  • Prosecutors presented overwhelming evidence when an Evansville jury convicted 30 year old Jaron A. Wells of fatally shooting his mother Shanay Hunt in 2023 — he faced sentencing on Sept. 16 and may receive a long prison term for murder and a firearm enhancement.  Courier & Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Columbus Indiana Huey, a restored Vietnam-era UH-1H Iroquois helicopter, will offer rides at the Evansville Wartime Museum on Friday, August 9 and Saturday, August 10 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Rides are available on a first-come, first-served basis while museum admission applies—tickets for the ride are sold separately and veterans and active-duty military receive discounts.  44 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Vanderburgh County commissioners rejected Orion Renewable Energy Group's proposal for a solar farm covering 600 fenced acres — located near I-69 and SR 57. County Commission President Justin Elpers said the project is not a good fit for Schott Township or the county at this time.  44 News
  • Drivers near the intersection of U.S. 41, Washington Avenue and the Lloyd Expressway now must turn right and use a U-turn lane instead of making left turns directly. Evansville police conducted a four-hour traffic detail over the weekend with 28 stops to instruct motorists on the new pattern designed to improve safety and reduce congestion.  44 News
