- ➤ The EVPL Foundation will host its Annual Summer Book Sale at Washington Square Mall on August 2nd and 3rd, offering thousands of items including books, audiobooks, CDs and DVDs priced from $0.50 to $2. - ➤ Authorities reported that a head-on collision on Big Cynthiana Road near Estate Drive west of Darmstadt in Vanderburgh County killed a motorist late Tuesday afternoon— the crash involved a blue Chevrolet Tahoe SUV that required extrication and a grey Toyota Tundra whose driver escaped as the truck caught fire, and investigators are reviewing the scene. - ➤ A truck driver named George Rettig IV crashed his truck into a motorcycle just before 8 p.m. Tuesday night at the intersection of North Elliott and Florida Street after saying he had three beers and two shots of whiskey and refusing a blood alcohol test — he is now in jail on multiple drunk driving charges while the motorcyclist remains in the ICU after having part of their leg amputated. 14 News
- ➤ After hours of deliberation, jurors found Warrick County man Johnathon J. Buza guilty of murder and unlawful possession of a firearm (but not robbery) for killing 27-year-old Manuel Heaton in April 2023 at Bluegrass Fish and Wildlife Area, and the court will sentence him later. Courier & Press
- ➤ Deputies said 36-year-old Dustin Cobb from Shawneetown burglarized a home and set it on fire on Monday before a police chase in Union County nearly injured a deputy—he now faces multiple charges and is held in Webster County Jail. 14 News
- ➤ A former Evansville-based DCS case worker, Sara Diane Wood, 35, was arrested Tuesday night on charges of official misconduct after an Indiana Office of Inspector General investigation found she falsified MaGIK records of face-to-face visits with families—she posted a $750 bond on Wednesday and entered a not guilty plea with a review hearing scheduled for Sept. 12.
