  • The Vanderburgh Humane Society has been awarded a $25,000 grant from national nonprofit Petco Love to help ease challenges from a drop in adoption rates for large dogs and rising daily care costs—funds will support their animal care, adoptions, and medical teams in finding pets loving homes.  44 News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Authorities found the body of the missing boater half a mile downstream from an empty boat near Dogtown Boat Ramp on Wednesday at 5 p.m.—officials said no lifejacket was on him and no foul play is expected as an autopsy is underway.  14 News

CRIME NEWS

  • The VCSO arrested 35-year-old Craig Bryan—accused of rape, intimidation, and theft conspiracies—after a hotel guest on Weston Road reported he threatened to kill her and her family and an investigation linked him to a planned equipment theft.  14 News
  • An attorney says that former DCS employee Sara Wood was arrested for allegedly falsifying abuse records and that the charges are a retaliatory act (she filed an EEOC complaint after handling a caseload more than double the norm) by DCS officials.  14 News

  • The 63rd Volksfest is happening today at Germania Maennerchor in Evansville — featuring both new attractions and returning favorites at this German heritage celebration. Joe Bird reports that visitors can enter free before 2 p.m. and enjoy the festival through August 2.  WEHT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Twelve local high school students completed Ivy Tech's summer Healthcare Academy on Thursday—earning 4.5 college credits and up to $500—while demonstrating skills with a Stop the Bleed kit at graduation.  14 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • An Evansville doctor warns that extreme heat can affect medications such as blood pressure drugs, antibiotics, and steroids and may lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, or heat stroke. He advises patients on these medications to limit time outside and drink plenty of water during the recent heat advisories.  WEHT
