CRIME NEWS

  • Evansville police are investigating when gunfire hit a home on Bayard Park Drive on Monday night and an apartment building on E. Michigan Street on Wednesday morning+gunfire was also reported at an apartment complex on Lincoln Avenue, with no arrests or injuries reported.  44 News
  • Early Wednesday morning, Evansville police responded to shots fired at Bradford Pointe Apartments on East Michigan Street where bullets hit several apartments and vehicles — no injuries were reported and no suspects have been arrested.  44 News
  • Eleven people have been charged following a months-long drug trafficking investigation in Evansville that began in January and led to federal search warrants executed on July 28 and 29—seizing drugs, firearms, and cash.  14 News
  • An Evansville man—26-year-old Jalenn Whitlock—faces charges of indecent exposure and public intoxication after being seen near Memorial High School on the first day of school when parents reported his appearance in just a shirt and one sock.  44 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Evansville African American Museum will host the 3rd Annual Baptisttown Emancipation Festival on August 9th from 12 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and free admission will include a Historical Marker Dedication, vendors, music, and a chance to tour the restored Porter House while honoring the journey from Emancipation to Empowerment.  44 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students with last names K through Z began their classes earlier this week — while those with A through J are adjusting to the new school year. On Friday, all EVSC students will be together for the first time.  14 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials said the Airline Road overpass bridge reopened Wednesday evening after crews replaced the superstructure and upgraded the barrier—work that was completed before school started in Henderson. They also advanced work on KY 351/2nd Street so that two lanes will be available for morning and afternoon school runs while single lanes will remain during off-peak hours until late October.  14 News
  • A federal appeals court ruled that Indiana law requiring a 25-foot buffer zone around on-duty police is unconstitutionally vague because it could let officers charge pedestrians for simply approaching—further proceedings will decide if the block applies statewide or only to involved parties.  Courier & Press
