  • D-Patrick Honda donated $1,500 to The Trotter House of Evansville on Thursday morning at the dealership on East Division Street, supporting the center’s free pregnancy care services for women—this gesture was part of the Honda Helping Kids campaign.  44 News
  • Mesker Park Zoo euthanized a female camel named Friday after her year-long gastrointestinal disease; her care team said many in the community deeply loved her. The zoo will soon search for a new companion for camel Wednesday and may relocate her if a suitable partner is not found.  14 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Evansville deputies arrested an adult, Helkena Langinbelik, and a juvenile for breaking into two cars after a welfare check in Melody Hills Subdivision just before 2:15 a.m.—the juvenile admitted to the crimes while Langinbelik did not cooperate—and they face charges for theft, unlawful entry and criminal mischief.  14 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials in Evansville announced a new wheel tax that will charge most residents $25 per year when they renew their vehicle registration to bring in millions for road repairs—City Council will introduce the measure on Monday after support from the Indiana Legislature and Governor Braun.  44 News
  • Crews began lane closures at the Burkhardt Road intersection on Lloyd Expressway Thursday and these closures continue today to allow for new wiring for future displaced left turns. Officials said the work, scheduled after morning rush hour and before evening rush, might extend into next week—potentially affecting traffic during the back-to-school period.  14 News
