- ➤ Nonprofit organizations can apply for Evansville Parks Foundation Grant Funds to improve, expand, or create public recreation programs—applications are due by September 1 and last year more than $25,000 was awarded to community groups. 44 News

- ➤ Crews responded to a two-vehicle accident on West Virginia Street near Mt Vernon Avenue in Evansville today when one vehicle overturned and struck a parked vehicle that hit a house porch—no injuries were reported. 44 News
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Gray Media Inc reached an agreement on August 8 to buy 10 TV stations, including Evansville's WEVV channel 44 and outlets in Terre Haute and West Lafayette, and the deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter after regulators approve the purchase + meeting all closing conditions. 14 News

- ➤ Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office arrested Zachary Scott Vogt Gibson after he allegedly displayed a handgun during a road rage incident near Highway 41 and Morgan Avenue—officers later located him near Inglefield Road—and he now faces charges of intimidation with a firearm and following too closely. 14 News
- ➤ Evansville police arrested Tony Howell Jr. after he allegedly broke into a home on East Missouri Street around 7:30 a.m. and attacked a resident with a baseball bat during a dispute over personal belongings, and he is held without bond. 44 News
- ➤ Evansville police arrested 59-year-old Darin Dunning, who allegedly sold nearly 19 grams of meth from his Elm Avenue home during two controlled buys since 2020—after being arrested twice for meth possession—and he is held without bond for refusing to appear in court, with a return scheduled next Wednesday. 14 News

- ➤ Today, students at Glenwood Elementary participated in a Dad Walk organized by the Parenting Time Center, Evansville Police Department, and Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office; they had a pancake breakfast with their dads, caregivers, and role models before walking to school and receiving a book and stuffed animal. 14 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Evansville City Council will introduce Ordinance G-2025-17 at 5:30 p.m. Monday in Room 301 at the Civic Center (the proposal sets a wheel and excise tax at $15 for motorcycles, $25 for passenger vehicles and $35 for heavy trucks to fund road improvements). The second reading is set for Aug. 25 and residents can share their views during the public comment period or by contacting their councilors. Courier & Press
- ➤ Kolbi Jackson from the Department of Metropolitan Development said a multi-million dollar affordable housing project is planned for Burkhardt Road to address Evansville’s high housing costs and substandard living conditions. She noted that the city is using programs like an affordable housing trust fund and Fight Blight, though key federal funding is at risk. 14 News
