COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Mayor Stephanie Terry announced Evansville will celebrate 812 Day today with events including a neighborhood cleanup (9:00 to 11:00 a.m.), a park signage unveiling, and a block party (8:00 to 2:00 p.m.) that offers coffee, donuts, and local specials.  14 News
  • The American Red Cross is teaming with local partners to install free smoke alarms for Southside families on Friday, August 15th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. + Volunteers will meet at Assembly of Faith Church for training before conducting 20-minute home visits to share fire safety tips.  44 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Evansville man Michael Wayne Scott Jr. was arrested after deputies responded to a tip on Sunday just before 6:30 p.m.—they found his home in unsanitary condition with a malnourished dog removed for veterinary care, and he now faces charges of animal cruelty, neglect, resisting law enforcement and child support violations.  14 News
  • Evansville Police arrested 37-year-old Brandon Whitehead Monday after a shootout near the Glenwood neighborhood on Saturday when witnesses said he retrieved an AR-15 from his home and suffered a gunshot wound to his foot—he now faces charges of Criminal Reckless with a Deadly Weapon and Possess Firearm by Serious Violent Felon.  14 News
  • Police in Evansville investigated gunfire on Sweetser Avenue shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday, finding several vehicles damaged and a home with shell casings recovered—detectives are examining the scene.  44 News
  • Former Tri-State law enforcement officer Gregory Durbin was charged with DUI after Evansville police pulled over his truck on Green River Road early Sunday—he had an alcohol level over twice the legal limit, tried to get a break, and was released on a $1,500 bond.  44 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Evansville Housing Authority said federal delays from HUD have postponed August Section 8 housing payments to local property owners. A property manager said tens of thousands of dollars are at risk—raising concerns that delayed payments could affect residents until the issue is resolved.  14 News
  • A temporary closure began Monday, August 11 on Evansville’s Westside from the Lloyd Expressway to Northbound Red Bank Road and from Southbound Red Bank Road to the Lloyd to let crews fix curbs, gutters and grading. Officials said crews will work overnight to finish the work in 15 days as they prepare for a future left-turn design coming in 2026.  44 News
