  • Today at the Vanderburgh 4-H Fairgrounds, the 50th annual Frog Follies begins with over 3,000 vintage rides, a $10 admission fee and proceeds supporting the Easterseals Rehabilitation Center. Organized by Evil Iron — the event will run through Sunday.  44 News
  • Local pet adoption group PAAWS has introduced a furry friend named Star—she is a female Australian Shepherd mix just over one year old. Evansville residents can learn more about her adoption through PAAWS.  44 News
  • Evansville will host the Pickle Festival on Saturday, September 6th from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m.—Joe Notter with Evansville Events said the festival will feature fun activities for pickle lovers—and community members are encouraged to join the celebration.  44 News

  • Angelo's Italian Restaurant owner Angelo Jawabreh posted a handwritten sign on Thursday to protest high CenterPoint Energy bills, saying his energy costs nearly doubled and many local customers are struggling with rising expenses. Other local business owners, including Arcademie, plan similar actions by reducing services in response to the rate hikes—highlighting widespread community frustration.  Courier & Press

  • The University of Evansville Theatre announced its 2025-2026 season with five new shows set to appear on campus for the first time. The lineup features Jagged Little Pill: The Musical running from October 17th to 26th — Native Gardens from November 20th to 23rd, Passage from February 24th to March 1st, The Steadfast from March 20th to 29th, The Humans from April 23rd to 26th, and a free touring Macbeth from November 7th to 9th.  44 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Leaders from Indiana and Kentucky met with the public this week to update on the I-69 Ohio River Crossing project—Henderson’s section will finish by October while the Indiana part is 60% complete and is slated to finish by the end of 2026. Officials seek $466 million from the federal Bridge Investment Program to help cover costs and boost road safety.  44 News
  • The Board of Zoning Appeals narrowly denied a special use permit for the Bluegrass Creek Solar Project on farmland near I-69 and Indiana 57 in northern Vanderburgh County on Thursday with a 4-3 vote. Some county officials and residents opposed the project while its advocates expressed disappointment — arguing that the development did not match community priorities.  Courier & Press
