ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A massive chemical fire erupted at PBTT Manufacturing’s Newburgh facility on Sept 6—officials said Monday that employees are safe, first responders and government agencies are working to clean up the site, and the Indiana Fire Marshals are investigating the cause. 44 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry presented her 2026 proposed $140.2 million budget to the City Council yesterday to keep core services running amid a $4.1 million shortfall from state tax changes—public meetings to review the plan are set for September 22 and October 6. The budget grows by 1.6% over last year and aims to protect roads, safety, housing, and parks without raising income taxes. 44 News
- ➤ Terry Phillippe was found not guilty of official misconduct and false informing during a bench trial on Tuesday — he remains District 2 Commissioner while charges against his colleagues were previously dismissed. 44 News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Researchers from the University of Florida, Texas A&M University and others said kissing bugs that bite and carry the parasite causing Chagas disease have been found in Indiana, even though no local human cases have been reported. The study showed that eight states have experienced local transmission and about half of the bugs tested carried the parasite. Courier & Press
