ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Officials said the chemical fire at the PBTT facility in Newburgh on Saturday led to warnings about ash debris and actions such as reopening AMAX Park and disinfecting school grounds — agencies are still checking on environmental and community impacts. Local fire crews and the EPA advised residents to avoid touching any ash — safety checks and investigations remain in progress. 14 News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Victory International Film Festival is happening this weekend in Evansville at Showplace Cinemas East — 1801 Morgan Center Drive on Thursday and Friday and at Victory Theatre on Main Street on Saturday. The festival will screen 95 independent films from 25 countries, feature filmmaker panels and the world premiere of Joe Atkinson’s 'Wet Bulb Temperature,' and hold an awards ceremony with full passes for $25 or $10 for a daily entry. - ➤ EVSC is testing a metal detector at the Academy for Innovative Studies to help keep weapons out of schools—no one has tried to bring a weapon through it since its installation in August as part of a pilot program that will guide future safety measures. Courier & Press

- ➤ Posey County was placed under a burn ban on Wednesday due to dry conditions, and the ban will remain until further notice. 44 News

- ➤ A Tuesday meeting about the future of the High Spirits liquor store in Fourth Ward showed only Indiana Excise Officer Brad Lutes attended while three board members were absent—neighbors will return on Oct. 14 in Room 307 to share their concerns as the board has yet to decide. Courier & Press
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ CDC data from late August showed Indiana had very high COVID-19 activity with 26 sites reporting strong viral levels and the XFG variant accounting for most cases while the NB.1.8.1 variant linked to razor blade throat appeared in 14% of cases. Health and Human Services recently changed vaccine guidelines so shots are now limited to high-risk individuals and those over 65. Courier & Press
- ➤ Deaconess Hospitals will soon hold remembrance ceremonies for families to honor babies lost during pregnancy and infancy. The Women’s Hospital in Warrick County will host its 23rd Annual A Walk to Remember on October 11th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Boy Scouts center — and Deaconess Henderson Hospital will host its 2nd Annual Wave of Light event on October 15th at 6:30 p.m. in its garden — marking Infant Loss Awareness Day. 44 News
