CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Mesker Park Zoo and Botanic Garden welcomed a new black howler monkey named Rikki on September 7—she is the zoo’s third baby howler born. Visitors can see Rikki at the Amazonia rainforest exhibit, where the howler monkeys sometimes share space with squirrel monkeys. 44 News
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The EPA completed cleanup at PBTT Manufacturing after a chemical fire on Sept 6 and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management will now oversee the site+ the EPA will assist as needed. Vann Park, which was closed due to ash debris, reopened today. 44 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Evansville leaders announced a change in the city water plan that will save money. Officials will present a design contract for a new Groundwater Treatment Plant today at 3 p.m. at the Sunrise Pump Station – the plan mixes groundwater with river water by fixing the South Water Treatment Plant and building new wells to cut costs. 44 News

- ➤ Local agencies surprised 1-year-old Krue on Sunday with a birthday visit as he battles juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia—Chandler Police, Chandler Volunteer Fire, Warrick County Sheriff’s, Ohio Township Fire, and Indiana State Police gathered for the celebration. His family asks the community to keep him in their prayers as he continues treatment. 44 News

- ➤ Saturn will be at its brightest when it reaches opposition on Sunday, Sept. 21, and stargazers in Evansville can see the ringed planet shining like a diamond—NASA reports it will be visible with the naked eye and through a telescope. Locals are advised to find a dark spot away from city lights as partly cloudy skies may affect visibility. Courier & Press

- ➤ Data from Realtor.com shows that in June, the median sale price for homes in Vanderburgh County fell 7.9% from May to $210,000; single-family home prices dropped 6.4% while condo and townhome prices rose slightly. Recorded sales increased 8.1% from 346 to 374 with $54.8 million in total sales—figures that mark a 24.3% jump in median prices from June last year. Courier & Press
