BUSINESS NEWS

  • Costco is recalling Kirkland Signature Prosecco Valdobbiadene sparkling wine over worries the bottles could shatter even when not in use—bottles sold from April 25 to August 26 in Indiana and other states should be safely discarded while affected customers can get refunds.  Courier & Press

CRIME NEWS

  • A hoax threat at Castle High School triggered a lockdown Monday when an office staff member received a call at 1:25 p.m. from a number linked to a similar fake threat — officers swept the building until the threat was cleared and classes resumed Tuesday.  Courier & Press
  • The West Side Nut Club warned Evansville residents Tuesday that bogus online posts claim to sell vendor spots for this year’s Fall Festival—official spots managed by its Streets Committee are already full and people should report suspicious activity.  44 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden is inviting community members to join Homeschool Days on September 23 and November 12 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The events include animal interactions, biofact encounters and a chat with a zookeeper for homeschooled learners.  44 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Indiana Department of Environmental Management set an Air Quality Action Day for today in Evansville as hot, dry weather and light wildfire smoke cause unhealthy ozone levels for sensitive groups. The action day starts at midnight—this is the second day this week that air quality is unhealthy and several local counties have issued burn bans to reduce fire risks.  Courier & Press
  • The EPA finished cleaning up ash after a fire at the PBTT Corp. facility in Newburgh on Sept. 15—state and local agencies ended their joint command since the effort was no longer needed. More than 100 property owners requested assessments and 80 were inspected—10 of which needed cleaning—while the Indiana Department of Environmental Management continues to oversee the site.  Courier & Press

  • Indiana Gov. Mike Braun has launched Power Up Indiana—an effort to help employers train workers for high-paying jobs. The program offers custom training and funding, and businesses of all sizes can use it to build internal talent—boosting the state’s workforce.  44 News
  • Evansville’s WNIN announced it will cut five staff and reduce weekend programming in October because it lost state and federal funds—local leaders will form a task force to plan its future without government help and donors have already given more money to ease the budget gap.  Courier & Press

  • Ascension St. Vincent’s Burn Center earned verification from the American Burn Association as Indiana’s only combined adult and pediatric center, showing its strong commitment to quality burn care. The center has an eight-bed unit, offers 24/7 access to specialists, and runs a same-day outpatient clinic—ensuring patients receive expert treatment during critical times.  44 News
