Evansville-Vanderburgh Central Dispatch will host a cookout fundraiser on October 3 to support Officer Sam Taylor who was shot twice in the line of duty—community members may donate $10 for a meal package including a hamburger, cheeseburger, or hot dog with chips, a drink, and dessert from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1331 Harmony Way.

Rep. Ed Soliday, chair of the Indiana Energy, Utilities and Telecommunications Committee, said in a meeting in Indianapolis on Wednesday that critics have used strong words about high utility bills even though rate increases were needed to fix old water and electric systems—he said both sides and the media exaggerate the problem. He added that Evansville residents have faced rising costs for more than 15 years.

Former Castle football players Deon Chester and Scott Bonnell will be inducted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame tomorrow before the Knights game against Reitz at John Lidy Field.

They join former coach Lidy and All-State linebacker Joe Huff as honored legends in Castle football history—recognizing their decades of impact on the program.
