- ➤ Evansville-Vanderburgh Central Dispatch will host a cookout fundraiser on October 3 to support Officer Sam Taylor who was shot twice in the line of duty—community members may donate $10 for a meal package including a hamburger, cheeseburger, or hot dog with chips, a drink, and dessert from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1331 Harmony Way. 44 News

- ➤ Rep. Ed Soliday, chair of the Indiana Energy, Utilities and Telecommunications Committee, said in a meeting in Indianapolis on Wednesday that critics have used strong words about high utility bills even though rate increases were needed to fix old water and electric systems—he said both sides and the media exaggerate the problem.
