  • Evansville’s West Side Nut Club Fall Festival will open on Oct 6 on Franklin Street and will feature over 100 nonprofit-run food booths — carnival rides, live cameras, and daily events including parades and contests. METS buses will offer shuttle rides at $0.75 per trip during lunchtime.  Courier & Press
  • The Vanderburgh County Solid Waste District will hold an electronics collection day Saturday, Oct. 4 in Downtown Evansville—running from 8 a.m. to noon at the Civic Center parking lot for residential households only.  Courier & Press
  • Tickets for the West Side Nut Club half pot are available online and in-person until 7 p.m. Monday for early sales and until 8 p.m. Oct. 11 for general purchase—buyers must be at least 18 and will be entered to win a Polaris UTV by River City Pro Motorsports with the drawing set for 7 p.m. CST on Oct. 12.  Courier & Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State officials reported spending nearly $97,000 on travel during the 2025 fiscal year with Diego Morales accounting for around $33,000 in expenses; several officials logged costs for fuel, helicopter rides, and conferences across the state and beyond. Under a new transparency law, all officials must submit detailed reports on official travel expenses every Oct. 1—ensuring voters can track government spending.  Courier & Press
  • Former Vice President Mike Pence spoke about mid-decade redistricting on Oct 1 at an event in Boston and said he would defer the decision to state lawmakers. He noted that while redistricting is not traditional, states hold the power over elections — an issue that Indiana lawmakers and Gov. Mike Braun continue to debate.  Courier & Press

  • Vanderburgh County health officials reported a West Nile virus death and nine human cases, mostly in the northern area, in recent weeks. They advise residents to protect themselves from mosquitoes—especially those over 60 or with weakened immune systems—as drought-like conditions and warmer weather keep risk levels high.  44 News
