COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A community cookout fundraiser held Friday supported Officer Sam Taylor, who was shot multiple times two weeks ago while approaching a stolen vehicle at a fast-food drive-through—attendees donated $10 each to help his family with recovery expenses.  44 News
  • The 9th Annual Lincolnshire Front Porch Fest will be held Sunday near Willow Avenue and Bayard Park Drive from 2 to 7 p.m.—over 20 local bands will play while food trucks and the Bokeh Bar Cart serve drinks to those 21 and older, with free parking at Bosse High School and St. Benedict Cathedral.  44 News
  • Evansville Regional Airport teams with local agencies and its For EVVeryone Accessibility Advisory Committee to host Terminal Treats on October 26th from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., providing an accessible Halloween event featuring allergy friendly treats — sensory toys and activities for families with sensitivities.  44 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Toys R Us is returning to Evansville with a new store at Eastland Mall — the shop will open near the center court and mall officials said more details will come soon.  44 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • AT&T and Human-I-T provided 100 refurbished laptops and backpacks with school supplies to Ivy Tech Community College students in Evansville to help close the digital divide—this donation is part of a larger nationwide effort to equip 30,000 students for the new school year.  44 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting Monday, October 6, INDOT will close State Road 68 near Haubstadt in Gibson County for a small structure replacement that will take two weeks—drivers should use the detour via U.S. 41 to I-64 to I-69 and drive slowly in work zones.  44 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Memorial football stayed undefeated with a 28 to 7 win at Reitz Friday night as the defense made 15 takeaways—one of which was a 65-yard pick-six—and set the stage for more wins. Coach John Hurley said the team will build on this strong performance as they prepare to face Vincennes Lincoln next week.  Courier & Press
  • High school football games in Southwestern Indiana wrapped Friday with key matchups such as Castle at Jasper and Memorial at Reitz—live updates from radio and TV reported scores like Memorial leading 14—0 in the second quarter.  Courier & Press
