- ➤ Today from 5 to 7 p.m. at CK Newsome Center, a candlelight ceremony will honor community servants including Leonard Lil Man Collins, Janice Hale, Rev. James Hamler, Louise Williams, Michael Mike Malone, and Rev. Phil Hoy — local partners such as Southern Indiana Mentoring Academy, Evansville African American Museum and Goosetown Neighborhood Association organized the event. 44 News

- ➤ Indiana’s tallest tree is now a Cherrybark Oak measured at 204 feet at Wesselman Woods Nature Preserve in Evansville — the record tree replaced a Bitternut Hickory in Hamilton County this summer and cannot be reached on official trails. Courier & Press

- ➤ The Indiana High School Athletic Association will announce sectional pairings live on IHSAATV.org at 6 p.m. CT, detailing matchups for southwestern Indiana high school volleyball teams while the first round begins Tuesday, Oct. 14 and championships are set on Oct. 18 (winners will advance to regionals next week).
