- ➤ Feed Evansville will host its third annual Longest Table event on November 2 at the C.K. Newsome Center, serving 1,000 free meals (4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.) to build community connections and improve food access. 44 News
- ➤ Evansville Animal Care & Control is full with over 20 dogs, including Brandy who has waited since July 26 because of a court case. The facility at 815 East Uhlhorn Street+open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday urges residents to adopt+foster dogs to help ease the crowding. 44 News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Fifteen local high school marching bands qualified for the Indiana State School Music Association semistate round after their Saturday performances—those bands will compete on November 1 at four Indianapolis-area high schools as the first step toward the state finals on November 8 at Lucas Oil Field. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ On Saturday, five local volleyball teams won their IHSAA sectional championships with Castle winning a five-set match against North—extending its state-record total and setting up a regional clash against Bloomington South next weekend. Teams from Heritage Hills, Princeton, Sullivan, Tecumseh and Springs Valley also secured titles, highlighting strong performances by local schools. Courier & Press
- ➤ On Oct 18, Indiana high school cross country races were held at Angel Mounds and Jasper in southwestern Indiana, where Princeton and Barr-Reeve won the boys sectionals and Mater Dei and Jasper won the girls races — top finishers advanced to the regional meet next weekend with the state championship set for Nov 1 at LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course. - ➤ At the regional championship round on Oct. 18, five local high school soccer teams competed in Evansville — only Heritage Hills advanced after winning the Class 2A boys match 3—1 over Batesville. Heritage Hills will face Bishop Chatard in the semi-state round next week at either North High School or Martinsville — the other four teams ended their seasons. Courier & Press
