  • The Vanderburgh Humane Society raised over $53,000 at West Side Nut Club’s Fall Festival — funds that will pay a $13,000 CenterPoint bill and $29,000 for supplies for more than 650 animals at the shelter. The festival led to 33 adoptions and 69 surrenders, and the society will host next year’s event on October 5-10, 2026 — marking a record effort for animal care.  44 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • EVSC will host its annual Options Fair on Oct. 23 from 5 p.m. until 7:45 p.m. at the Southern Indiana Career and Technical Center for 8th graders and other interested students to learn about innovative high school options — the event will include 20-minute presentations that explain programs like the Academy of Science and Medicine and Early College High School.  Courier & Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Stargazers in Evansville will be able to see the Orionid meteor shower peak on Oct. 21 when the new moon makes about 20 meteors per hour visible—this happens as Earth passes through debris from Halley’s Comet—and the best time to watch is just before midnight until around 2 a.m.  Courier & Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Pigeon Creek Watershed Development Commission will host a stakeholder meeting at 11 a.m. Oct. 27 in Room 301 at the Civic Center—inviting anyone connected to the watershed, whether they live, work or play in the area—to share ideas on issues like flood damage reduction and recreation, and those who cannot attend may email their comments.  Courier & Press
