- ➤ During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the YWCA of Evansville held its Week Without Violence kick-off event Monday at its downtown facility, where Mayor Stephanie Terry, law enforcement officials and community partners attended — stressing the importance of local support for women facing abuse. A survivor shared her story while attendees wore purple to show their commitment to change. 14 News
- ➤ Feed Evansville has announced its third annual event, The Longest Table, which will provide 1,000 free meals at a city-wide gathering on November 2 at C.K. Newsome Center from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.—the event aims to promote access to nutritious food. 14 News
- ➤ Today, Save the Dogs battled strong winds at Pet Supplies Plus on south Green River Road to help over 50 dogs find homes and promote spaying and neutering—its next adoption event is set for October 25th at Tri-State Equine for Halloween with the Dogs. 14 News

- ➤ A fundraiser was started by Dylan Coston’s Toyota Family to support the family of the 24-year-old worker who died from carbon monoxide exposure while working at a home on the corner of Willard Street and Strain Street in Fort Branch—another worker, Faith Brown, was taken to the hospital in serious condition. 44 News

- ➤ The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation will hold its annual Options Fair Thursday to help 8th grade students learn about innovative high school programs and talk with current participants. Presentations are scheduled at set times for programs including the Academy of Future Educators, Academy of Science and Medicine, and others—officials say the event is designed to guide students in choosing their high school path. 14 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Evansville officials opened the Walnut Street Corridor as a model for future Vision Zero projects to make streets safer for everyone. Deputy Mayor Lindsay Snyder said the corridor features wider sidewalks+ biking paths and is part of efforts inspired by local doctor Ahmed Khan after his son was killed in 2024. 14 News
- ➤ Vanderburgh County Highway Department officials said a portion of Posey County Line Road between Denzer and Marx Road was closed Monday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for repairs — only local and emergency vehicles were allowed as crews warned of delays and urged drivers to use alternative routes. 14 News
- ➤ Evansville Water and Sewer Utility announced that residents paying for trash and recycling on their water bill may have their biodegradable or paper-bagged leaves collected on their regular pickup day from October 27 to December 12. Residents must follow the collection guidelines (to ensure proper pickup). 14 News

- ➤ Evansville will accept unused and expired prescription drugs, liquids, pills and vaping cartridges at 19411 Highway 41 North as part of the DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day—set for Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—to help prevent drug abuse. 14 News
- ➤ Local advocates in Evansville are pushing to start a syringe exchange program since the state law allowing it will end on July 1. Evansville Recovery Alliance—leading the coalition—is urging residents to ask state officials for an extension to keep harm reduction services available. Courier & Press

- ➤ Evansville native Don Mattingly, the bench coach for the Toronto Blue Jays, is headed to his first World Series appearance after his team won Game 7 of the ALCS against the Seattle Mariners.
