BUSINESS NEWS

  • Evansville restaurant Spankeys Una Pizza has seen fewer customers due to road work for the Lloyd 4 U project on the Westside, and owner Ryan Huck has urged locals to visit during less busy times. His social media post showed strong support from the community—highlighting that the local dining experience is valued even as construction continues.  14 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • A painting that was missing for over 20 years is now on display at Willard Library after local artist David Earl Jones recovered it from storage and expanded the work—adding new details such as the Grey Lady—to honor the historic building and support a local non-profit.   • The Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana will stage two final events later this year before closing its gallery and ending 55 years of service as it prepares to shut down in January. ECONOMY NEWS

  • READI 2.0 funds of $45 million awarded in April 2024 have kickstarted projects in the Evansville region that focus on building revitalizations across four counties (Gibson, Posey, Vanderburgh and Warrick). E-REP officials say these projects will spur up to $450 million in construction and add about $2.6 billion in new GDP over the next 10 years.  14 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Officials with Daviess County Public Schools announced they have received a $500,000 grant from the U-S Department of Justice to improve school security—the funds will update the district's radio system, transportation, and security cameras to protect staff and students.  14 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is asking residents to report sightings of Mediterranean geckos that have been seen in photo reports and often arrive on shipments—officials note that because the lizards need heated buildings to survive Indiana winters, they are not a threat to local wildlife.  Courier & Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Evansville residents can have their bagged fall leaves picked up with their regular trash from Monday, Oct. 27 until Dec. 12. Evansville Water and Sewer Utility asks that leaves be bagged in biodegradable plastic or paper and neatly piled by the curb before 6 a.m. on pickup day.  Courier & Press
  • Indiana residents receiving SNAP may not get help in November if the government shutdown continues because USDA funding runs only through October—local food banks report higher demand due to rising costs—and officials urge community advocacy as families struggle to afford food.  14 News
  • A section of southbound U.S. 41 near Fort Branch will close nightly from 5 p.m. to 4 a.m. starting Tuesday, Oct. 28 for an emergency pipe replacement project—detours are in place using Indiana 64, I-69, and Indiana 168 as crews work for four days depending on weather.  Courier & Press

  • At the William J. Millikan Vital Signs Trauma Conference, Ascension St. Vincent detailed their treatment for Officer Jordan Rundle and his wife after a car crash nearly a year ago—Rundle was resuscitated twice, had his spleen removed in emergency surgery, and was placed in a medically induced coma—and he praised the lifesaving efforts of the medical team.  14 News

  • In September, the median home listing in Vanderburgh County dropped to $213,450 — a 14.6% decrease from last month's $249,900. Data from Realtor.com shows listings spent a median of 39 days on the market, down from 49 days in the previous month.  Courier & Press
