COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, United Caring Services in Evansville is raising its white flag notice as cold temperatures arrived sooner than expected—tables are replaced with beds to offer shelter and warm meals. Executive Director Ryan Riggs said the six-month program will continue until April 30 and that blanket donations are welcome at the front desk.  14 News
  • Veterans met today at the CK Newsome center for a dinner as they prepared for an honor flight to Washington, which will lift off at 6:00 a.m. Saturday and return later the same day—giving them a rare chance to see the memorials and connect with fellow travelers.  14 News
  • Local McDonald’s operators will donate $10,562 to Tri-State Food Bank from the Side of Support campaign held from September 22-26, and officials say the check — set to be presented Thursday at 9 a.m. — will provide about 63,000 meals for local families.  14 News
  • Kay C’s Barkville hosted a Howl-a-ween Party for area dogs at its 3-acre park in Evansville—dog owners dressed their pets in costumes, snapped photos for prizes, and promoted a membership that keeps the park maintained and ensures all dogs are vaccinated. This free event is part of their regular monthly offerings meant to give non-members a taste of the benefits while supporting park upkeep.  14 News
  • The Bacon, Burger and Beer Festival will return to Evansville tomorrow + it offers live music, an eating contest and free entry for children 12 and under. Joe Notter with Evansville Events said the first 1,500 visitors will receive a sponsored beverage + the event will provide cold drinks and fun for local families.  44 News

  • Dr. Alex Kor, son of Holocaust survivors, will speak for free at the Evansville Wartime Museum on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.—he will share stories of resilience and legacy from his book A Blessing, Not a Burden to honor his father Mickey Kor’s 100th birthday.  14 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Alberto Musalem, boss of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, will speak at a forum hosted by the University of Evansville and the Evansville Regional Economic Partnership at Eykamp Hall, Ridgway University Center, on Nov. 13—he will talk about how money is handled and trends that will impact the nation and our local area.  Courier & Press
  • CenterPoint Energy announced new affordability actions for customers in southwestern Indiana to ease high bills—customers will see a $3.00 monthly credit starting November for about six months and about $18.00 per month in savings next year to keep rates near or below inflation. New regional president Mike Roeder said the steps follow recent rate increases made to recoup costs from projects in Posey County and are part of a renewed effort to improve transparency.  14 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Evansville Vanderburgh County School Corporation hosted its annual options fair — held at the Southern Indiana Career and Technical Center — where eighth graders and families explored high school choices through booths and 20-minute presentations. The event helped guide future program selections for students.  14 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Paramedic Ryan Rizen of American Medical Response witnessed a serious motorcycle crash on his way home and performed lifesaving CPR with borrowed gloves and trauma shears; he will be honored with the 2025 Stars of Life Award in Washington — D.C. this November.  14 News

  • The Ohio Valley Conference announced Thursday that commissioner Beth DeBauche resigned effective immediately to focus on family priorities after her father’s passing—Greg Walter was named acting commissioner as the league begins a national search for an interim leader.  Courier & Press
