- ➤ The federal shutdown has lasted for 30 days and local food drives in Evansville saw more than 150 families line up amid fears that SNAP benefits will end November 1 — volunteers reported that donations were double last week. 44 News

- ➤ Local manufacturers gathered at USI as the Tri-State Manufacturers’ Alliance—together with the Evansville Regional Economic Partnership—held a summit to discuss challenges, innovation, and opportunities in the manufacturing sector. Organizers said the sessions helped share best practices to strengthen industry unity. 14 News

- ➤ University of Southern Indiana received a $2.5M grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. to help Historic New Harmony improve exhibits and programs on the town's religious history; the funding will support renovations for historic buildings and development of educational projects—such as a permanent exhibition and interfaith festival—in the coming months. 14 News

- ➤ Manufacturing Academy students from Henderson County visited Audubon Metals & Hydro Aluminum today as the final stop on their tour where they learned about trade jobs including welding & heavy machinery operation and electrical work. Leaders hope the tour will inspire students to seek local manufacturing careers that offer great pay and benefits. 14 News
- ➤ EVSC announced Monday it will conduct a safety audit after three school incidents involving weapons occurred over the past three months—parents pushed for immediate weapons detection systems after reports of a gun at Delaware Elementary and a loaded BB gun at Central—while officials stressed the need for a full review first. The audit will be done with help from the Indiana Office of School Safety to ensure a safe environment for all students. Courier & Press
- ➤ At Cedar Hall Elementary, police with Cops Connecting with Kids announced that eight students will join a Disney World trip in January—selected for their classroom effort, good behavior and leadership to build strong ties between youth and law enforcement. The Monster Inc. themed assembly marked the first reveal in what is hoped to be a long-lasting tradition. 14 News
- ➤ Bosse High School Marching Band will travel to Indianapolis to compete in the Class C semistate competition Saturday and they practiced at Enlow Field on Oct. 23—preparing for the event. Courier & Press

- ➤ Indiana's WIC benefits could be cut off for 153,000 families if no extra $300 million is approved to extend funding past Oct. 31—recipients risk losing food benefits starting Nov. 1 amid a government shutdown threat. Local clinics may face furloughs as officials await further emergency funds to safeguard the program. Courier & Press

- ➤ The Evansville Thunderbolts will host the Peoria Rivermen at the Ford Center tomorrow for Halloween Night and on November 1 for Disco Night, with both games starting at 7 p.m. The events include a bucket giveaway and costume parade for the first 1,000 fans on Halloween Night — fans are encouraged to wear disco attire on Disco Night. 44 News
