COMMUNITY NEWS

  • PAAWS introduced Handsome, a 2-year-old German Shepherd Mix, as this week's Furry Friend Friday in Evansville. The adoptable pet (available for adoption inquiries) is looking for a forever home.  44 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Overnight, vandals hijacked INDOT road signs along Lloyd Expressway, Highway 41, and I-69 in Evansville to display bizarre messages such as ZOMBIE CROSSING and SORRY LOL — INDOT officials said they are working to remove the unauthorized messages.  44 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Historic photos show Halloween costumes, decorations — and trick-or-treating in Evansville from 1964 to 1994, revealing how local traditions have evolved over time.  Courier & Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Eight McGary Middle School students were chosen by their teachers for a Disney trip with Cops Connecting with Kids, and they will travel on January 19th, 2026 (they were selected for classroom effort, positive behavior and leadership).  14 News
  • Tri-State schools are worried that SNAP benefits will not be distributed for November—about 55% of their students qualify for government benefits and depend on free school meals during off-school days. Owensboro Public Schools and local food banks have organized food drives and programs like the weekend backpack program to help families bridge the gap.  14 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local organizations announced a Readiness Plan at the CK Newsome Center in Evansville to help SNAP recipients affected by the government shutdown, which is now in its second month. The plan uses grants from Tri-State Food Bank and Feed Evansville and will support a store opening November 8 — volunteers are needed to support the effort.  44 News
  • Evansville city officials now expect one lane in each direction on Riverside Drive to open within the next two weeks—rain slowed work on the road.  14 News
  • Governor Mike Braun signed an executive order to form the Indiana Initiative for Drone Dominance Task Force that will link government, universities—private industry to boost drone research, manufacturing and security. The group will deliver a strategic plan with recommendations to the governor by July 31, 2026.  Courier & Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • The American Red Cross reminds Evansville residents to test their smoke alarms and change batteries when turning back clocks on Sunday. Experts say working alarms (replace if older than 10 years) cut the risk of fatal fires by half.  14 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Touchdown Live covered high school football games across the Tri-State last night—scores and highlights were posted from the 6 p.m. show on the 14 Sports Page.  14 News
  • High school football sectional semifinal scores were released on Oct. 31 for both the Evansville area and statewide teams. Evansville North won 55-7 over New Albany while other local matchups showed a mix of close and one-sided results.  Courier & Press
  • Nick Hart’s Gibson Southern defeated Memorial 28-21 on Oct. 31 at Jack Jewell Memorial Field in the Class 3A sectional semifinal. The Titans improved in the second half by holding Memorial to 33 rushing yards and gaining four takeaways—setting them up to play Mater Dei next week at Reitz Bowl.  Courier & Press
