- ➤ The Evansville Rescue Mission will host its annual Drumstick Dash 5K this Saturday, November 8; the race will raise funds through the Gobbler Gathering to provide 2,500 food boxes for local families in need—helping supply Thanksgiving meals. 44 News
- ➤ Crews have started phase one of renovations at Garvin Park to add a new activity zone that includes a playground, a basketball court, and a four-seasons bathroom—this phase replaces the old playground removed for the new Deaconess Aquatic Center while future work will improve drainage, lighting, and walkways. 14 News

- ➤ Fourteen News team members recalled their live coverage of Indiana’s deadliest November tornado that hit on November 6th, 2005, causing 25 deaths and damaging hundreds of homes. They remembered how outdated alert systems made it hard to inform viewers at the time—reporters like Shannon Samson and Jeff Lyons did everything they could to keep the public updated. 14 News
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Schnucks Markets, Inc. is offering the lowest price on frozen Schnucks-brand turkeys in at least 15 years starting Wednesday (one week earlier than its usual Thanksgiving pricing) to help families save on holiday meals. Officials said shoppers are limited to one turkey (with an additional $25 purchase required) when taking advantage of the offer. 14 News
- ➤ Local restaurant Be Happy Pie Company prepares for Thanksgiving with orders starting as early as September—last year it received over 1,000 orders and it now offers pies made from scratch in small batches at its two locations. Customers will be able to place orders ranging from a single pie to a large batch until 5 p.m. on November 19. 14 News

- ➤ Officer Sam Taylor, shot in the line of duty in September, said on social media he is paralyzed from the chest down and will be at a rehab facility in Atlanta until January + he remains hopeful for some recovery and thanked the community for its support. 14 News

- ➤ A letter from Christopher Newman argues that Evansville must lower high energy bills instead of promoting flashy projects, and he says the Evansville Regional Economic Partnership should prove its impact with clear metrics. - ➤ Indiana's new IREAD retention law held back just over 3,000 third graders who failed the state literacy test — they will receive extra tutoring and support — while nearly 7,000 others advanced with exemptions as overall scores reached pre-pandemic levels. Courier & Press

- ➤ Hoosiers on SNAP will receive their food benefits later than usual because the state must recalculate reduced payments following judges' orders—some households with higher incomes may receive no benefits this month. Courier & Press
- ➤ Evansville Water and Sewer Utility has suspended water shutoffs and late fees for 90 days to support residents affected by changes in federal food assistance—customers must still contact customer service to arrange smaller, manageable payments. 44 News
