COMMUNITY NEWS

  • USI ceramic students and volunteers made about 550 bowls at Barker Brewhouse on Saturday during the annual Filling Empty Bowls for Veterans event—each bowl sold for $20 and came with soup and bread from Mother Truckers. Proceeds supported the Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program.  14 News
  • Evansville First Responders Hockey Team hosted a benefit game at Swonder Ice Arena to support police officer Sam Taylor, who was shot in September and is now in rehab in Atlanta—all proceeds went to his family. The game brought together local first responders and community members to show support for him during his recovery.  14 News
  • The University of Southern Indiana is launching a Stuff the Cruiser food drive to support Archie's Closet by collecting non-perishable items at home USI Basketball games at 3 p.m. today, 6 p.m. on November 17, and 3 p.m. on November 29. A pop-up food pantry will operate in the Fireside Lounge at University Center East from November 17 to 25—partnered with campus offices.  44 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Meteor watchers in Evansville are encouraged to look up as the Leonid meteor shower peaks tonight into Monday morning with up to 15 meteors per hour visible under a 9% full waning crescent moon that does not spoil views.  Courier & Press

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Nov. 14, Gibson Southern won its Class 3A regional title with a 42-14 victory over Indian Creek but lost its star quarterback, Zach Foster, who left the game with a major leg injury that ended his season—forcing his team to rely on new leaders as they prepare for their semi-state match at Cascade.  Courier & Press
