COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local groups in Evansville are planning nine free Thanksgiving meals to ensure no one misses a holiday dinner—options range from Wednesday potlucks and sit-down meals to drive-thru giveaways and Thanksgiving Day events on November 26 and 27. Residents can join events at churches and community centers for dining in or carryout.  Courier & Press
  • Brackett Heating, Air — Plumbing installed a new furnace and AC unit at Jonathan Wright's home on Monday to help the local hero and firefighter lower his utility bills. The company said it will continue the 'Brackett Salutes the Brave' program every year to honor those who served our country.  14 News
  • Evansville's Christmas on North Main Parade will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 23 and will feature grand marshals Don Buse and Matt Hobbs along with festive displays, free hot chocolate stations, and special holiday menus from local restaurants. The day begins at noon with Santa's Workshop at Hope City Church — where families can enjoy cookies, games, and photos with Santa before the parade starts.  Courier & Press
  • The West Side Nut Club said more than 280,000 people attended the Fall Festival based on cell phone data and that attendance rose by over 47,000 from last year. Leaders reported the event had an $8.3 million economic impact, including $3.8 million from food booth sales—28 booths broke their record sales.  14 News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On March 1, a mine collapsed under a Chandler neighborhood near Monroe Street, damaging many homes—eight months later, residents still struggle with repair costs and lack of FEMA aid while relying on family support and local church fundraisers.  14 News
  • Alexander Hessler, a 14-year-old Reitz High School freshman football player, died in a high-speed crash on Orchard Road Sunday just before 2:30 p.m. when his car left the road and hit a tree.  Courier & Press

  • Weird Al Yankovic will bring his BIGGER and WEIRDER 2026 Tour to Evansville’s Ford Center on June 16 and his show will feature a video wall, costume changes plus an eight-piece band. Tickets go on sale on Friday, November 21 at 10 a.m.  44 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Junior Achievement of Southwestern Indiana broke ground on a new 25,000 square foot discovery center off Diego Drive Monday & board member Jim Wittman said the project is designed to spark real-world learning. The center will let students ask questions to holograms & include 18 storefronts that show how to run a business.  14 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Evansville Sewer and Water Utility officials said Riverside Drive will open to one lane in each direction by Friday—barring heavy rain that may delay repairs. The road was closed in April after a sinkhole in February led to full lane closures.  14 News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • New data shows Evansville apartment rents dropped 4 percent from last October’s middle price of $1,065 to $1,025. One-bedroom rents fell slightly while prices rose from last month’s $1,000—showing mixed trends for local renters.  Courier & Press

SPORTS NEWS

  • The 86th annual Evansville Downtown Quarterback Club All-City football team was announced Monday, naming Ricky White Jr. of North High School as Most Outstanding Player and John Hurley of Memorial High School as Gary West Coach of the Year. North finished an 8-3 season and advanced to the sectional championship—Memorial posted a 9-1 record with ten players selected.  Courier & Press
