COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Kentucky State Police will hold the annual 'Cram the Cruiser' food drive to help families during the holiday season and will collect non-perishable food donations until Dec. 5 (troopers will staff 16 posts at grocery and retail stores). Donations such as canned fruits, vegetables, meats, and staples like peanut butter and jams are welcomed (each post will retain its local contributions).  14 News
  • Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry hosted her second annual Thanksgiving interfaith service today—bringing together people from many faiths for readings, music, and prayers—with local partners organizing a food drive for Little Pantries across the city.  14 News
  • Evansville will hold its annual tree lighting ceremony on Nov. 29 near the Civic Center at 1 NW Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd where residents can enjoy a festive celebration with live performances, hot chocolate, and photos with Santa. Local businesses will be highlighted on Small Business Saturday, and the event runs from 6:30 to 8 p.m.—the tree lighting begins at 7 p.m.  Courier & Press
  • After a local Target lost power last Tuesday night, Young and Established gathered hundreds of boxes with juice, milk, meat, and fruit to help more than 2,000 households in Evansville—this community group holds weekly giveaways to fight food insecurity.  44 News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Funeral arrangements for Alex Hessler, a 14-year-old from Reitz High School who died in a car crash near Orchard Road and Hillside Road, were announced—visitation is on Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and his funeral is on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Sunset Funeral Home.  14 News
  • City crews and state agencies—specifically the Environmental Protection Agency and Indiana Department of Environmental Management—have begun cleaning up the Morton Avenue warehouse site after a fire started by trespassers seeking warmth in October 2022, and officials say there is no set timetable to finish work.  44 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Evansville Police Officer Sam Taylor, who was shot in the line of duty, is recovering as community members raised $10,300 at a cookout hosted last month by Vanderburgh Central Dispatch & local donors, with supplies provided by Schnucks, Walmart & Sam’s Club to support his family.  14 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library announced that the Red Bank location will close at 6 p.m. on December 12 for demolition to make way for a new 20,000 square-foot library that will offer nearly 80,000 items and multiple meeting rooms— a temporary location with most services will open nearby early next year.  14 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Indie a two year old black lab has joined the Evansville Fire Department as a fire dog after six months of advanced training in ignitable liquid detection. Residents are encouraged to greet Indie but not feed her as only her handler Investigator Patrick Moore gives her food—local groups like Berry Global and Midwestern Pet Foods helped make her program possible.  44 News
  • EVPL Red Bank will welcome patrons for the last time on December 12 to clear the way for a new facility under the library’s Master Facilities Plan. A temporary location will open in early 2026 to keep services running and an information session is scheduled on December 11 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the current site with MKM architecture + design handling the rebuild.  44 News

  • Riding a five-game winning streak, the Evansville Thunderbolts will host a 7:00 p.m. game against the Knoxville Ice Bears on Friday at Ford Center — featuring First Responders Night and an American Red Cross Blood Drive from noon to 5:00 p.m. On Saturday, they will play at 7:00 p.m. with Toy Story Jersey Night in a two-game series — keeping local fans engaged.  44 News
