COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Blue Grass Church asked volunteers to help pack 500,000 meals this weekend for Feed My Starving Children at two local sites—one on Cemetery Road and one at the County 4H Center Auditorium. Volunteers met Friday and are working today with another session planned for Sunday at 11 a.m., while Perry Heights Middle School students helped as the church aims to mark its 15th event by reaching 2 million meals prepared.  Courier & Press

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Officials said Aerie and Offline by Aerie have opened at Eastland Mall, with both stores in the Macy’s wing across from Victoria’s Secret—this decision allows shoppers to access more options now.  14 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The University of Evansville Music Conservatory will host its annual free Holiday Pops concert on Dec. 2 at the Victory Theatre with a reception starting at 6:30 p.m.—guests must register online to attend the festive event that features performances from UE student ensembles and a special visit with Santa Claus.  Courier & Press
  • The Hadi Shrine Circus will begin its four-day run on Thanksgiving night at the Ford Center in Evansville with a 5 p.m. show on November 27. Tickets cost between $12 and $42 and can be purchased locally and online through Ticketmaster.  Courier & Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Riverside Drive has been closed for nine months because of a large sinkhole near Cherry Street and the Evansville Water and Sewer Utility said it expects to reopen one lane in each direction by midmorning Monday, November 24—if weather and other conditions cooperate. The work began after a damaged sewer line was discovered in February and has faced delays from rainfall and local flooding concerns.  Courier & Press
  • Officials from Stemaly Excavating said lane restrictions will begin Monday at 8 a.m. between Kratzville Road and Arla Jane Drive—to install a water and sewer tap—with flaggers guiding traffic as work takes place three feet from the south edge of Laubscher Road, and the restrictions will end Wednesday before 5 p.m.  14 News
  • Evansville Water and Sewer utility leaders announced that the eastbound closure of Diamond Ave just past the Highway 41 ramp and ending around Hercules Avenue has been extended until November 25 because of rain. Northbound access to Highway 41 remains open while westbound traffic is unaffected.  14 News
  • Starting November 26 through the end of December, Evansville police will enforce sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols to deter unsafe driving and boost seat belt use—an initiative coordinated with the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute to reduce holiday traffic deaths.  14 News
