COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents gathered today on North Main Street as Santa and Mrs. Clause took photos and listened to Christmas wishes at Santa’s Workshop in Hope City Church before the parade began at 2:30 p.m.—festive floats, lights, sirens and a 14 First Alert Interceptor with Mitch Carter handing out treats added to the event.  14 News
  • Today, the Evansville Rescue Mission is hosting its 104th annual Gobbler Gathering at the Old National Events Plaza – it will distribute 2,500 pre-registered 70-pound food boxes to families at scheduled times from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The event was expanded from the original plan of 2,200 boxes to meet increased need and economic pressures.  44 News
  • The Gathering Church in Evansville hosted a free Thanksgiving shopping experience for families facing food insecurity, offering over 150 turkeys and letting nearly 200 households choose their groceries with dignity—volunteers helped throughout the event.  14 News
  • Salvation Army of Evansville will host its Thanksgiving Festival this week at the Corps Community Center on North Fulton Avenue to serve a hot meal with smoked turkey, sides, and desserts to between 800 and 1,000 people in need from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.—organizers will also provide live music, prizes, and winter coats—continuing a long-standing Evansville tradition.  14 News
  • The Evansville Fire Department received comfort bags from the Be Kind for Ollie Foundation in honor of Jamie Dill's son, Ollie, and the bags that include stuffed animals, coloring books, crayons, fidget toys and tissues will be used to comfort children when emergencies occur.  44 News
  • A Chandler resident and Indianapolis Clowns pitcher helped a kayaker after his kayak flipped, giving him food, water, and dry clothes while waiting for his daughter to arrive—Warrick County officials said the man was heading down Pigeon Creek from Warrick to Vanderburgh county.  14 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Local business owners in Evansville are stocking shelves and planning special deals for Small Business Saturday. Heather Vaught of River City Goods — which opened a new Eastland Mall store three weeks ago — and Lainie Grubbs of Hometown Nutrition — which is adding pop-up shops and extra inventory — have readied their stores, with free ‘Shop Small’ items offered at 318 Main Street at 10 a.m.  14 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today the Germania Mannerchor Christkindlmarkt returned for its 8th year, turning a historic hall into a cozy German village—shoppers found handcrafted treasures and German favorites while proceeds supported the Harold Griese Scholarship Fund.  14 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Junior Achievement of Southwestern Indiana was awarded a $1.75M READI 2.0 grant to build a 24,000-square-foot learning center — the JA Discovery Center — that will offer hands-on programs for students in grades 4–12 from a 15-county area and support future workforce growth.  14 News
  • The University of Evansville received the Forward Together Grant to support its Literacy in the Community project with Evansville Promise Neighborhood and the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation. The grant will fund literacy training for educators and host a full-day literacy event with a local author in summer 2026 — it will also support family engagement nights at local elementary schools for more than 1,500 students and caregivers.  44 News
  • Junior Achievement of Southwestern Indiana was awarded a READI 2.0 grant to build a 24000 square foot learning center that will serve students in grades 4 through 12 across 15 counties. The center will offer programs such as JA BizTown and JA Finance Park and the 1.75 million dollars grant is funded by the state — a move that will boost hands-on work skills.  44 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Riverside Drive in downtown Evansville reopened after a nine-month closure for sinkhole repairs, though local businesses still struggle—one restaurant reported a 40% loss in business during the closure—while the Evansville Water and Sewer Utility completes the remaining work.  44 News
  • The McCutchanville Fire Department posted safety tips today warning residents that cooking fires double during Thanksgiving from deep frying turkeys, which may cause heavy damage—firefighters said thawing and drying the turkey and not overfilling the oil are critical steps—urging everyone to follow fryer instructions and avoid indoor or wooden deck use.  14 News
  • The Old Vanderburgh County Courthouse bell will ring again after months of restoration work as USI’s Center for Applied Research and its students install a new drop hammer today—expected to be completed by 5:00 p.m. after county staff discovered the original had snapped during a May inspection.   14 News
