COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The American Red Cross is asking Evansville residents to volunteer for disaster response after helping in over 200 emergencies such as floods, tornadoes, and home fires. Volunteers are needed to provide shelter, meals, and comfort during the holiday season when home fire incidents rise nearly 20% + the group stressed that community support is essential. 44 News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ SWIRDA unveiled its first Regional Arts and Culture Strategic Plan to boost quality of place and strengthen the regional arts economy across the Tri-State through centralized marketing, expanded public art, live performance projects and sustainable funding efforts. Local partners including the Indiana Arts Commission, governments and community leaders helped shape the plan to drive long-term growth in the arts sector. 14 News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Warrick County schools will test new CEIA Opengate weapon detectors next week, starting with staff training on December 8th at Boonville High School, Castle High School, Tecumseh Middle & High School, and the Pathways and Career Center—students will walk through the detectors in a live screening the following day as a practice for regular use. The schools will continue using the devices after the initial screening. 14 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ INDOT has mobilized over 160 trucks (more than 30 in Evansville) and prepped 30,000 tons of salt to clear 140 designated routes as winter weather will hit overnight. Plow crews will begin work just after sunset and ask drivers to allow extra stopping distance. 44 News
- ➤ The Indiana Department of Transportation has set up cameras at busy intersections and on snow plows in Evansville so drivers can check live road conditions. The system gives real-time views from plow windshields — keeping commuters updated during winter weather. Courier & Press
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ UE Athletics is partnering with Evansville Promise Neighborhood to provide season tickets for men's and women's basketball games to students and families at six focus schools. Each school will host a School Night at the Ford Center — the program will also expand to spring sports next year. 44 News
- ➤ Evansville’s Lilly King, a retired Olympic swimmer and world record holder, struck an anvil as a special guest at Lucas Oil Stadium during the Colts game against the Texans on Dec. 1—she recently got married this fall. 14 News
