- ➤ The Downtown Evansville Improvement District will host A Downtown Christmas on Saturday, December 6th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Main and 5th Streets where families can enjoy free photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus, pony rides, a giant walk-in snow globe, hair tinsel, and a snow machine — free parking is available at the city parking garage at 3rd and Locust. 44 News
- ➤ University of Evansville will hold a memorial service at Memorial Plaza behind Olmsted Hall at 12 p.m. on Friday, December 12 to mark the 48th anniversary of the fatal 1977 plane crash that claimed the lives of coach Bobby Watson, 14 players and others—Reverend Andy Payton will deliver an invocation while President Pietruszkiewicz gives remarks and reads 29 names. 44 News
- ➤ The American Red Cross of Southwest Indiana is looking for disaster relief volunteers because many serious weather disasters caused some helpers to drop out—officials say new volunteers can support recovery efforts. 14 News
- ➤ Aurora will host its 25th annual Homeless Memorial Service on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church—honoring seven individuals who died in 2025 and 182 over 25 years in total. The service will feature a candle-lighting ceremony and live stream to remember those lost. Courier & Press

- ➤ RWE has proposed a $300 million solar farm in Francisco that will cover about 1,300 acres to power 42,500 homes. The project will start building in March 2027 and be ready by the end of 2029—creating 150 construction jobs and prompting a Gibson County Council vote on a tax break at the December 16 meeting. 14 News

- ➤ Due to severe winter weather, many Tri-State students woke up to school closures and delays as several Kentucky schools closed and switched to remote learning while EVSC and Warrick County Schools began classes two hours late (report published Dec.2). 14 News
- ➤ USI was awarded by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education for its work in planning and communicating during the Great American Eclipse in April 2024. Thousands of guests attended the event on campus. 14 News
- ➤ The University of Evansville will hold a memorial service on December 12 at noon at Memorial Plaza behind Olmsted Hall to remember the 29 people killed in the 1977 plane crash—featuring an invocation from Reverend Andy Payton, remarks by President Pietruszkiewicz, the reading of all names, and a moment of silence. 14 News

- ➤ Several Tri-State mayors joined the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign on Giving Tuesday by ringing bells outside the Civic Center in Evansville to raise money for the holidays. Officials said they aimed to collect at least $2,000 in each kettle and hoped this act would start a new yearly tradition. 14 News
- ➤ Gibson County Council held a public hearing on Monday to discuss RWE’s proposed solar project and will vote on a tax abatement on December 16. The $300 million project will begin construction in March 2027 and finish by December 31, 2029 — it is set to power 42,500 homes and create about 150 construction jobs. 44 News
