  • The 32nd annual Ritzy's Fantasy of Lights was held in Garvin Park on Friday, Dec. 5 to raise funds for Easterseals Rehabilitation Center. The light display brought the community together in a festive atmosphere.  Courier & Press
  • Aurora hosted its 25th annual Homeless Memorial Service Thursday to honor seven Evansville residents who died in 2025 as part of National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day, marking 182 deaths in the 25-year history. The event reflected the community's commitment to remembering its vulnerable members.  Courier & Press
  • Toy Town kicked off Friday in Evansville as donation boxes were installed at local Walmart stores — collecting toys for over 1,000 families in need for Christmas. 14 News partnered with the Salvation Army for this community effort.  14 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Holly's House reported that child abuse cases can double during the holidays when teachers are away, and executive director Kristine Cortts advises parents to create safety plans (such as using a safe word) to help children speak up during stressful times.  44 News

  • Treaty Oak Revival will perform at Ford Center on Feb. 20 to promote their new album West Texas Degenerate. Ticket presales begin on Dec. 11 + general sales start on Dec. 12 at 10 a.m.  44 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Unemployment claims in Indiana fell to 2,259 from 2,758 for the week ending Nov. 29, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. The data confirms a decrease in new jobless filings across the state.  Courier & Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • South Terrace Elementary School held a ribbon-cutting for its new STEM lab today after partnering with Vincennes University and Purdue IN-MAC. The lab gives students access to 3D printing, robotics, and advanced electronics and is one of several new labs planned for other local schools.  14 News
  • EVSC officials said 335 student athletes earned Academic All-City honors for the fall season by maintaining a 3.5 GPA while earning varsity letters — a recognition of their hard work. Reese Parsons said balancing after-school practices with homework was key to her achievement.  14 News
