Getting Around

Twin Bridges repairs start Monday, with a full southbound closure planned Friday night

If you cross the Ohio River on U.S. 41, mark Monday, Nov. 9. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is scheduled to begin repairs to the in Henderson that day, with work expected to continue through the week. Crews will repair the southbound bridge's support structure, replace damaged rocker bearings and fix a structural support beam. The goal is to reopen all four lanes sooner than the expected Thanksgiving deadline.

The week's repairs build to a Friday night closure

  1. Nov. 9Repairs begin, mostly beneath the bridge, with little change in traffic.
  2. Nov. 11-12Southbound traffic is expected to shift from the left lane to the right lane.
  3. Nov. 13The southbound bridge will close fully Friday night, with all river traffic on the northbound bridge.
  • After repairs: both southbound lanes move back to the southbound bridge
  • Northbound bridge: restriped to its normal two-lane setup
  • Possible delays: northbound bridge during restriping

Most repairs won't affect traffic for the first half of the week, but the final phase brings a full closure of the southbound bridge on Friday night. Headed across the river Friday night? We suggest leaving extra time.
